Tossicità e cura nel paesaggio agricolo: l’economia morale delle Terre dell’Ebro - Toxicity and Care in an Agricultural Landscape: The Moral Economy of the Ebro Region

This article examines pesticide use in the Terres de l’Ebre (Catalonia) as a moral field where farmers negotiate uncertainty, responsibility, and agricultural survival. EU ecological transition policies, especially Farm to Fork, add new pressures to a landscape shaped by toxicity, climate instability, and volatile markets. Based on ethnographic research, the study shows that agronomic decisions are moral judgments balancing efficacy, prudence, justice, and care. It proposes the concept of a “moral economy of pesticides” to explain how substances, regulations, and practices shape rural endurance
