Aim of the papers is to place and evaluate the work of Sofia Vanni Rovighi within the range of philosophical literature of XXth century, that has for its object the conception of being in Thomas Aquinas. In the huge production of studies of this subject 4 generations of studies are detected: the first identified the conception of being in Aquinas with that of Aristotle; the second generation held his conception of being as fully original with regards to Aristotle and not without neoplatonic influence; the third has held the ontology of Aquinas as being not original, because it was seen as completely dependent from Neo-Platonism (especially that of Porphyrio and of Pseudo-Dionigi); the fourth, that has been developed in the area of interest of Analytic Thomism, so called, comes back to an Aristotelian conception of Thomistic ontology, after the criticism of Enrico Berti and Anthony Kenny. Therefore, in such a varied frame, the position of Sofia Vanni Rovighi appears to be original: first of all she didn’t show a great condescendence towards the scholars of second generation and, furthermore, she remained always faithful (also due to Gaetano) to the Aristotelic interpretation of Thomistic ontology, that today receives more and more credits, especially in the field of analytic philosophy (that was of great interest to her).
