This study investigates the role of intralingual subtitles for the English language lexis, focusing on the medical drama The Good Doctor and drawing on a qualitative methodology that integrated questionnaires, lexical tests, and interviews. The findings derived from the lexical texts confirm that intralingual subtitles can enhance vocabulary comprehension, for both colloquial and Medical English lexis. Moreover, most participants reported in the questionnaires and in the interviews actively using subtitles and relying on contextual cues such as dialogue, visuals and voice modulation to infer meaning. The study confirmed the pedagogical potential of intralingual subtitling in helping vocabulary comprehension in English.
