This paper presents the research that led to the elaboration and identification of teachers’ didactic competences in the age of artificial intelligence. The study does not originate from the conceptualization of AI in educational settings but, adopting a bottom-up perspective, starts from teachers’ didactic competences, redefining them in the age of generative AI. Through the analysis of 134 stories written by teachers about their experiences with AI collected in 2025 across Italian schools of different types, levels, and regions and by means of a data-driven doublecoding process, the research identifies 19 dimensions distributed across five areas of teaching: didactic transposition; didactic design; didactic action; personalization and differentiation; assessment and evaluation. The findings highlight the role of AI in didactic contexts, which does not constitute a replacement for the teacher but rather a mediator that redistributes professional responsibility throughout the entire cycle of didactic practice, giving renewed meaning to the figure of the teacher who, from a creator of materials, becomes a designer and reflective practitioner. In conclusion, the work opens up questions concerning teacher agency in contemporary educational processes.

Abstract
In conclusion, the work opens up questions concerning teacher agency in contemporary educational processes.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
