This essay resumes and comments on the complete letter from Francesco Novati to Adolfo Mussafia dated January 22nd, 1890, previously published as incomplete in the Mussafia-Novati correspondence featured in this «Giornale» in 2023. Also in 1890, Novati published a paremiological article in this journal, essential to understanding the letter presented here. The historical reconstruction uses unpublished materials from the Novati Fund of the Lombard Historical Society.
