Accogliere, assistere e curare: dalla carità medievale all’ospedale Grande

At the end of the Middle Ages, the network of small parish hospitals, private or municipal, gave way to the new form of “large hospitals”, which would become increasingly popular in the modern age. The contribution illustrates the transformation that took place in Brescia in the health sector, with the foundation of the Ospitale Maius in the mid-15th century, investigates the political, religious and health reasons for this change and the first steps of the welfare institution. The archive references and the bibliography allow us to frame the entire story with originality and new perspectives.

Alla fine del medioevo la rete dei piccoli ospedali pievani, privati o comunali lascia il posto alla nuova forma degli “ospedali grandi”, che prenderanno sempre più piede in età moderna. Il contributo illustra la trasformazione, avvenuta a Brescia in campo sanitario, con la fondazione dell’Ospitale Maius a metà del XV, indaga le ragioni politiche, religiose e sanitarie di tale cambiamento e i primi passi dell’ente assistenziale. I rimandi d’archivio e presenta la bibliografia permettono di inquadrare l’intera vicenda con originalità e nuove prospettive.
