Abstract

Play has been part of human existence since the first years of life and is one of the main activities carried out spontaneously and naturally. The child, when playing, is completely immersed in what he is doing and is engaged on a cognitive, emotional and motor level. Games in the school environment can represent a great learning opportunity and also offer the possibility of in- creasing the time dedicated to movement, currently unfortunately still lack- ing. The active breaks, acti-break or pause in movement, is a response to a precise neurological, psycho-emotional and physiological need of the stu- dent; Thanks to the proposal of feasible and achievable motor games in the classroom and/or in adjacent spaces, benefits have been found for the psy- chophysical health and academic performance of learners, as well as an im- provement in the quality of learning while counteracting daily sedentariness. Therefore, the theoretical foundations related to the importance of play and especially of motor play in developmental age are analyzed below; subse- quently, based on the National Guidelines for the Curriculum and the WHO Guidelines, some proposals are outlined aimed at the practical realization of active breaks through examples and multimedia links for immediate use in the application field.
