CREMIT was established in 2006 with two main interests: media education, declined in research on media representations, uses, and appropriation and in intervention with and on the media in formal and informal contexts; and education technologies in schools and higher education. The Centre becomes an observatory to detect the changes introduced by digital technology, to interpret contemporary culture, and to study and test methodological paths in education. To face the ‘post-digital’ scenario, four main shifts have emerged: - from a narrow focus on school to the context beyond school, including pupils aged 0-6 and the elderly, health and pastoral contexts, journalists and performing arts professionals; - from an idea of media as tools and environments to the topic of Community Technologies (with the re-definition of bondings); - from the geographical paradigm (space-time, virtual-real as ‘parallel worlds’) to the onlife paradigm (the normalisation of digital input); - from a digital school (teaching and learning innovation) to the promotion of new literacies: data literacy, information literacy, and media literacy where digital literacy is a cultural hint for a non-segmented representation of citizenship. CREMIT responds to these challenges by developing varied devices and tools: Peer&Media Education; the Blec Model and MOOCs; the EAS (Episode of Situated Learning); the community tutor; onlife citizenship; ‘digital educational poverty’ and the media diet.
