The paper analyzes the laying of the first Italian stumbling block dedicated to Roma and Sinti in the context of the process that links the reappropriation of their history by these minorities as an element in the construction of citizenship and inclusion. According to the National Strategy, the reconstruction of the Nazi-Fascist deportation and extermination acquires a particular significance in contrasting anti-Gypsyism that is still widespread today. The reconstruction of the story of the Sinto Romano Held, to whom the first stumbling block to a member of this minority is dedicated in Trieste, takes place within the framework of the “Multi-voice memory” project, promoted by the two most important Italian Jewish youth associations and Romani, Ugei and Ucri. From the case study, from a perspective of alliance and non-competition between the victims, indications emerge for the didactics of memory, based on the succession of juxtaposing stories and testimonies (memory), geo-temporal contextualization (history), evaluation of social mechanisms (critical dimension) and the civic-political dimension projected onto the present.
