Odio onlife: definizione, manifestazioni nel web sociale e contrasto

Although hatred and hostile behavior have been present in human societies from the beginning, today hate speech takes on unprecedented manifestations on the social web. The spread of hate speech “onlife” worries about the transversality and the ability to feed tribalisms, “flame wars”, generalized aggression, polarization, racism in an unprecedented way. The text proposes a definition of hate speech, underlining how it is an ambiguous but useful category and highlighting the need for a multidisciplinary approach and a multiagency perspective; then notes the specific characteristics assumed by hate speech on the social web, which is constantly evolving. Finally, in the light of the authorship of the “prosumer”, some indications of pedagogical intervention are identified to combat hate speech.

Benché l’odio e i comportamenti ostili siano presenti nelle società umane fin dalle origini, oggi l’hate speech assume manifestazioni inedite nel web sociale. La diffusione dell’incitamento all’odio “onlife” preoccupa per la trasversalità e la capacità di alimentare in modo inedito tribalismi, “flame wars”, aggressività generalizzata, polarizzazioni, razzismi. Il testo propone una definizione del discorso d’odio, sottolineando come sia una categoria ambigua ma utile al tempo stesso, ed evidenziando la necessità di un approccio multidisciplinare e di un’ottica multiagency; rileva, poi, le caratteristiche specifiche assunte dal discorso d’odio nel web sociale, in continua evoluzione. Infine, alla luce dell’autorialità degli “spettautori”, si individuano alcune indicazioni di intervento pedagogico per contrastare il discorsod’odio.
