The main issue of this paper is the notion of authenticity in the thought of Bernard Lonergan, who has devoted much of his life to deepening the dynamics of consciousness and the growth of self-awareness. Authenticity is conceived as a fundamental requirement, as an open and precarious process, as a task rooted in self-transcendence, as a journey whose turning point is the conversion – intellectual, moral or religious.
