Since CLIL implementation started in Italy some 8 years ago, high school students’ views about it have been among the least researched topics. The present exploratory study seeks to investigate, by means of a questionnaire administered to 129 liceo linguistico students in 3 different schools, the students’ point of view concerning: the effects of CLIL (carried out in English) on Italian (mostly on reading and writing), the interconnections between English and Italian, and the development of language skills that are different from those developed in an English-language course.

Abstract

Since CLIL implementation started in Italy some 8 years ago, high school students’ views about it have been among the least researched topics. The present exploratory study seeks to investigate, by means of a questionnaire administered to 129 liceo linguistico students in 3 different schools, the students’ point of view concerning: the effects of CLIL (carried out in English) on Italian (mostly on reading and writing), the interconnections between English and Italian, and the development of language skills that are different from those developed in an English-language course.
