The essay traces the activity of Mario Pedini, Italian and European Christian Democrat deputy in the 1960s, then Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs in the early 1970s, in Italy's policy towards post-colonial Africa. His commitment is aimed initially at the construction of the Euro-African Association foreseen by the Treaties of Rome of 1957, weaving wide-ranging relations with the main leaders of independent Africa to convince them of the opportunity for a new relationship between Europe and Africa, outside from the colonial approach. An original "post-colonial" vision emerges, founded on the belief of a complementarity and an interconnection between the two continents, in which Italy, through the intense activity of Mario Pedini, plays an unprecedented bridge role, also for its particular geopolitical location as a "boot in the sea".

Abstract
The essay traces the activity of Mario Pedini, Italian and European Christian Democrat deputy in the 1960s, then Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs in the early 1970s, in Italy's policy towards post-colonial Africa. His commitment is aimed initially at the construction of the Euro-African Association foreseen by the Treaties of Rome of 1957, weaving wide-ranging relations with the main leaders of independent Africa to convince them of the opportunity for a new relationship between Europe and Africa, outside from the colonial approach. An original "post-colonial" vision emerges, founded on the belief of a complementarity and an interconnection between the two continents, in which Italy, through the intense activity of Mario Pedini, plays an unprecedented bridge role, also for its particular geopolitical location as a "boot in the sea".I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
