In the years 2015-2016, 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 the Regional Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) has been designated by the Lombardy Region to coordinate and manage a project focused on the implementation of physical education (PE) in primary school children in order to promote the development of four critical areas: morphological-functional, affective, cognitive and social. This project named “Lombardia in gioco: una scuola di sport”, running also in the current school year i.e. 2018-2019, has seen the Catholic University of Milan acting as a leader and coordinator of five major Lombardian universities, which have in turn worked synergistically for the training of the experts and for the monitoring of all the actors of this educational intervention. These are the numbers regarding the involvement in 2017-2018: 111.638 children, of which 3822 disabled, 189.000 parents, 5307 school classes, 234 educational institutions, 222 school principals, 381 trained experts, 14 university professors. The PE implementation project was accomplished through the intervention of experienced and trained Motor and Sport Sciences graduates who supported and assisted the teachers during twenty curricular PE hours within a school year. The training of the experts was carried out by the same Lombardian Universities through theoretical and practical training modules concerning the teaching and didactics of motor and sport activities during the developmental years i.e. 6-to-11 years, and the monitoring procedures. This contribution aims at providing some data regarding the outcomes and the overall evaluation of the main components of the entire project: children, parents, school principals and teachers.
