Relations between the Vatican and the Albanian Catholics represent an important aspect of the eastern policy of the Holy See during the second half of the XIXth century. Rome tried to mediate between the Albanians and the Ottoman government to prevent the albanian national movement from threatening the integrity of Empire. The maintenance of the ottoman cohabitation system allowed Catholic communities to live in an Islamic context.
