The contribution is inspired by some photos taken at street children and adolescents in the context of an Irish city. Starting from the photos the author proposes a reflection about educational poverties of our days. The look through photos becomes a reason to receive the pedagogical solicitations about the way to exercise an educational look on the many faces of childhood, too often negated or unrecognized. At the center of the pedagogical look in this case we find children and almost adolescents that we can meet in the spaces of the streets and cities of Europe and the world. Children as protagonists of an street art and at the same time an “art to get by” that recalls us to become aware of the many forms of betrayed childhood and new forms of poverties. Far from idealizations of childhood considered in the abstract, the conditions of poverty and degradation affect children not only in the suburbs of continents away from us, but also in the West, where their condition of poverty is accompanied by psychological, educational and moral abandonment phenomena. For these reasons, the concept of poverty implies a reinterpretation in terms of educational reduction that draws to exercise a renewed pedagogical in-depth look, which becomes ethical and existential "exposure" to the others and theirs vulnerabilities. With regard a pedagogical revision of the significance of the educational observation, the paper draws on the thought of different authors, in particular from Lévinas thought, and takes inspiration by the other's face as way to make an original experience of approach to the person and his uniqueness, to feel his difficulties through a look that is capable to raise questions.
Traendo sollecitazione da alcune foto scattate a bambini e adolescenti di strada nel contesto di una cittadina irlandese, l’autrice propone una riflessione sulle povertà educative dei nostri giorni. Lo sguardo attraverso le foto diventa motivo per farsi sollecitare intorno al modo di esercitare lo sguardo educativo nella direzione dei tanti volti dell’infanzia, troppo spesso negati o non riconosciuti. Al centro dello sguardo pedagogico troviamo in questo caso bambini e ragazzi quasi adolescenti che possiamo incrociare negli spazi delle strade e delle città europee e del mondo. Bambini protagonisti di un’arte di strada e al tempo stesso di un’”arte di cavarsela” che ci rimanda a prendere consapevolezza delle tante forme di infanzia tradita e delle nuove forme di povertà. Lontano dalle idealizzazioni di un’infanzia considerata in astratto, le condizioni di povertà e degrado colpiscono i bambini non solo nelle periferie di continenti lontani da noi, ma anche in Occidente, dove la loro condizione di povertà si accompagna ai fenomeni di abbandono psicologico, educativo, morale. Per tali motivi il concetto di povertà implica una rilettura in termini di riduzione educativa che richiama ad esercitare un rinnovato sguardo pedagogico in profondità, che diventa “esposizione” etica ed esistenziale agli altri e alle vulnerabilità. Al fine di compiere una rielaborazione pedagogica del significato proprio dello sguardo, l’autrice attinge al pensiero di diversi autori, in particolare a quello di Lévinas, facendo proprio il riferimento al volto dell’altro come modalità primaria attraverso cui compiere l’esperienza originaria di avvicinamento alla persona nella sua unicità, per avvertirne la condizione di difficoltà attraverso uno sguardo che è capace di essere interpellato e di farsi domande.
