The successful acquisition of the phonological system of a language is an important part of mastering that language. In this context the present paper has two main purposes: taking Italian and English as examples, it explores the differences between the Italian and English phonological systems; second, it proposes to uncover the phonological tendencies of Italian speakers of English, which may potentially trigger a negative transfer if not considered and controlled.
