Some new biographical information is given here about the profiles of Vincenzo Sgualdi, a first half of the XVIIth century benedictine monk and man of letters who was well included in the academic society of his age, and his brother Giulio Cesare, a learned clergyman who lived close to the background of the episcopal court of Piacenza. Some letters from and to Vincenzo are also edited, in order to improve an epistolary collection recently started in other historical magazines, as well as to schow some aspects of the close relationship Sgualdi had with various members of the House of Farnese (Margherita Aldobrandini and abbess Maura Lucenia Farnese) and with relevant personages of the cultural debate in those years (Guidubaldo Benamati, Giovanni Battista Manzini and others).
