This paper aims to analyse how some references to Italian politics, present in foreign TV series, are translated into Italian. In particular the paper will focus on the case of an episode of the American sitcom How I Met Your Mother and will compare the official translation with fans' translations available on the internet to show how the context of translation influences the translator's choices.
