The volume contains in all 4 chapters, the first being a short overview of Aquinas' life. The second chapter concerns his work and consists of three paragraphs each of wichh deals with three texts representative of Aquinas' philosophy. The third chapter provides a short glossay of the key terms and concepts in Aquinas' philosophy. The last chapter concerns the history of the reception of his work from the time of his death until the present. Particulary attention should be paid to the last paragraph where the existence of an entirely new period in the history of Thomism is revealed. The main idea of this book on Aquinas is that the issues and the interests typical of the contemporary debates in the area of the so-called analytical philosophy constitute a great opportunity, rather than an obstacle, in order to better understand the very thought of Aquinas. For this reason the book takes into account the “philosophical” studies on Aquinas (such as those by Geach, Anscombe, Kenny, B. Miller, Llano, Haldane, Lisska, Hughes etc.) precisely in order to better understand Aquinas’s thought in his own context. At the same time it takes into account the best historical-philosophical studies on Aquinas (such as those recently of Porro, Imbach, Oliva, Bonino, Pini, Courtine, de Libera, Te Velde, Hankey, just to name a few, and some classics such as those by Vanni Rovighi, Gilson, Fabro) in order to better understand the very Aquinas’s work in his own context, without failing to involve on the other hand his philosophy in the contemporary debates.
