The article focuses on the influence of Italian psychiatric culture between the 50s and the 60s on Michelangelo Antonioni's work of the period. Based on an original research within Antonioni's personal library, it argues that a numbers of Antonioni's aestethical solutions (especially in Red Desert) are rooted in a updated knowledge of contemporary Italian psychiatric landscape
