In this paper we adopt a framework based on both the resource-based view and the global strategic network theory to analyze the effects of international research alliances on the performance of New Technology-Based Firms (NTBF). We consider the European Union funded international research joint ventures established by a large sample of Italian NTBF over the period 1994-2003. We measure firm performance through total factor productivity and we resort to GMM system to estimate the impact of such alliances on the performance of NTBF. Our results suggest that NTBF are more efficient if they ally with industrial partners located in a variety of countries and these countries are closer to world knowledge sources.

Abstract
In this paper we adopt a framework based on both the resource-based view and the global strategic network theory to analyze the effects of international research alliances on the performance of New Technology-Based Firms (NTBF). We consider the European Union funded international research joint ventures established by a large sample of Italian NTBF over the period 1994-2003. We measure firm performance through total factor productivity and we resort to GMM system to estimate the impact of such alliances on the performance of NTBF. Our results suggest that NTBF are more efficient if they ally with industrial partners located in a variety of countries and these countries are closer to world knowledge sources.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
