The Author focuses on the problem of what to do with frozen embryos that are not used by parents. He examines the possibility of allowing them to be utilised by another couple and describes this procedure as an adoption of embryos rather than a donation. Donation involves parts of the body of a donor and the goal is to cure a dysfunction or an illness of the recipient. Embryos are a result of fertilisation of gametes from two people rather than just one individual, and the purpose of embryo transfer is to procreate a child, therefore involving a third person. Consequently, the recipient couple assume the role of parents as in adoption. In other words, donation is a health issue and involves two people, donor and recipient, whereas adoption of an embryo involves more than two people, leading to a new life and the role of parenthood. In conclusion, the concept of adoption is more appropriate and helpful in understanding the issue of the utilisation of frozen embryos for procreative purposes and solving problems relating to it. Moreover, adoption reflects the value of the human dignity of embryos and of the act of solidarity by the couple who give birth to a new life and assume parental responsibility.
