Using spatial regression models, the article investigates how the characteristics of the resident population and local firms influence the birth of new migrant businesses in Milan. The results indicate how the birth processes concentrated in certain areas of the city are correlated with both the residential concentration of different ethnic groups and, within a path dependence framework, with the demographic dynamics of co-ethnic businesses.
