Guided by these intentions and with precise reference to archival documents, iconographical sources, music prints and Marian meditation books from the end of the sixteenth and beginning of the seventeenth centuries, the book efficaciously reconstructs the lay experience of music for five Marian cults: the Madonna of Miracles at Santa Maria presso San Celso, the Madonna Addolorata at Santa Maria dei Servi, the Society of the Ave Maria in the Duomo, the Confraternity of the Rosary and the Madonna del Parto.
