This paper deals with the development, creation and first implementation of a computerized placement test based on the CEF. The aim of the test is to allocate all the students of the Catholic University in suitable English courses. The project is part of a larger progrmme aiming at the standardization of language tests and at the production of computerized final exams. After describing the present situation and the objective of the project, this paper deals with the ideation, development and submission of the first 'pilot' test, whose results are then compared with the results of the corresponding final exams.
