How can an ancient philosopher help our life? The most dangerous misconception is to look for a superficial overlapping of modern and ancient ideas. On the contrary, the ancients are significant if and only if their thought challenges our categories. The essays identifies MacIntyre's unique importance in his historical awareness, even if many among his ideas can be traced e.g. in Max Scheler. A good example of an ancient able to challenge us is Lucretius's cruel phenomenology of inauthentic life, offering a starting point towards a true awareness of "bad life", necessary to be able to build one's "good life".

Abstract
How can an ancient philosopher help our life? The most dangerous misconception is to look for a superficial overlapping of modern and ancient ideas. On the contrary, the ancients are significant if and only if their thought challenges our categories. The essays identifies MacIntyre's unique importance in his historical awareness, even if many among his ideas can be traced e.g. in Max Scheler. A good example of an ancient able to challenge us is Lucretius's cruel phenomenology of inauthentic life, offering a starting point towards a true awareness of "bad life", necessary to be able to build one's "good life".I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
