It is estimated that about 92,000 new cases of oral cavity and pharyngeal cancer occurred in Europe in 2008. During the past 30 years in the USA and Western Europe, the prognosis for oral cancer has clearly improved thanks to the possibility of reconstruction with microvascular free flaps, resulting in broader and safer resections. The anterolateral thigh flap is now being increasingly employed for this goal. The aim of the present work is to evaluate the anterolateral thigh free flap in the reconstruction of oral cavity defects.

Abstract
It is estimated that about 92,000 new cases of oral cavity and pharyngeal cancer occurred in Europe in 2008. During the past 30 years in the USA and Western Europe, the prognosis for oral cancer has clearly improved thanks to the possibility of reconstruction with microvascular free flaps, resulting in broader and safer resections. The anterolateral thigh flap is now being increasingly employed for this goal. The aim of the present work is to evaluate the anterolateral thigh free flap in the reconstruction of oral cavity defects.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
