The aim of this paper is to underline the fundamental and innovative role played by Antoninus Pierozzi (1389-1459) both in the cultural and teorethical recovery of theatre as an educational instrument, and in its practical application to the ethical and moral training of florentine children and teenagers through the invention of the “sacra rappresentazione”. The analysis of the archbishop Antoninus’ synodal constitutions related to theater and of some dramatic texsts has shown, on the one hand, his continuing implication in the ceremonial and performative florentine life, and on the other, the particular kind of educational messages entrusted to “sacre rappresentazioni” and their influence on florentine society, during the XV century, and on the counter-reformated religious theatre, after the Trento Council.

Abstract
The aim of this paper is to underline the fundamental and innovative role played by Antoninus Pierozzi (1389-1459) both in the cultural and teorethical recovery of theatre as an educational instrument, and in its practical application to the ethical and moral training of florentine children and teenagers through the invention of the “sacra rappresentazione”. The analysis of the archbishop Antoninus’ synodal constitutions related to theater and of some dramatic texsts has shown, on the one hand, his continuing implication in the ceremonial and performative florentine life, and on the other, the particular kind of educational messages entrusted to “sacre rappresentazioni” and their influence on florentine society, during the XV century, and on the counter-reformated religious theatre, after the Trento Council.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
