Lo sport come apprendistato civile

Through sport, which spread in their combination as a recreational activity, but not without educational values​​, the Catholics have contributed to the formation of the modern idea of a citizen endowed with the civic virtues that sports practices help to develop. Attentive to the moral and social consequences of physical activity, after the initial preference for gymnastics, modern Catholics did not fail to seize opportunities aggregative and formative offered by sports, to form the Federation of Italian Catholic sports associations (FASCI) which was later suppressed by the regime in 1927 because contradictory to the objectives pedagogical most characteristic of fascism.

Attraverso lo sport, diffusosi nelle loro associazioni come attività ricreativa ma non priva di valenze educative, i cattolici hanno contribuito alla formazione dell'idea moderna di cittadino dotato delle virtù civili che le pratiche sportive aiutano a sviluppare. Attenti alle conseguenze morali e civili dell'attività fisica, dopo l'iniziale predilezione per la ginnastica, i cattolici più moderni non mancarono di cogliere le opportunità aggregative e formative offerte dagli sport, dando vita alla Federazione delle associazioni sportive cattoliche italiane (FASCI), che fu poi soppressa dal regime nel 1927 perchè contraddittoria rispetto agli obiettivi pedagogici più caratteritici del fascismo.
