Il contributo di Gaspare Ambrosini al regionalismo italiano

This work aims at exploring Gaspare Ambrosini’s thought on the development of the autonomist principle in the Italian culture. Ambrosini’s role deserves to be investigated because of his important mediation also at the Constituent Assembly, where many doubts were raised on regionalistic choices. Despite Ambrosini’s strenuous work, Constituents reached, among many difficulties, an agreement on a political compromise that limited legislative regional powers and rigidly distinguished national and regional functions. It will be argued that regionalism failed because the Constituents strongly opposed then introduction of a regional system in Italy. Therefore it is not an exaggeration to say that the crisis of regionalism started at the very moment when Regions were born.
