Leopardi e il mare. Riconnotazione di un topos

The well-known passage c.4177-78 of the Zibaldone states the identity infinite-nothing, raising what can be exprienced to the status of total horizon of the existent and of explanatory paradigm that eliminates the possibility of any “other”. But the linguistic formulation itself, in which this thought is expresses, is in conflict with Leopardi’s system of reflection on language, even with that expresses in thoughts temporally near to the one in question. The same contradiction is present in the 1819 Idyll “The Infinite”, in which the profound dialectics between an infinite invented by the writer and an infinite recognized within reality moves on to the successful idea of the sea as consciousness of the ineptitude of perceiving the complexity of the all that surrounds us.

Il celebre passo zibaldoniano di c.4177-78 sancisce l'identità infinito -nulla, erigendo quanto è sperimentabile a orizzonte totale dell'esistente e a paradigma esplicativo che elimina la possibilità di qualunque "diverso". Ma la stessa formulazione linguistica con cui è espresso quel pensiero entra in conflitto con il sistema leopardiano di riflessione sul linguaggio, anche in pensieri cronologicamente vicini a quello in oggetto. La stessa contraddizione è interna all'omonimo idillio del '19, in cui la dialettica profonda tra un infinito inventato dallo scrittore e un infinito riconosciuto nella realtà confluisce nell'idea vincente del mare come coscienza dell'inettitudine a percepire la complessità del tutto che ci circonda.
