A short proof of the so-called Kastler–Kalau–Walze theorem is given, by resorting to the ζ -function definition of the Wodzicki residue. Moreover, comments are made on the relationship between the Einstein–Hilbert and the spectral action, after suitably rewriting the latter in terms of the Weyl functional.
