The article investigates the construction of individual and collective identity in contemporary society, moving in a sociological perspective. At the core of the reasoning we find the reciprocal need for recognition. This involves both the reflective capacity of the subject and his responsibility. In this perspective it has been read the relationship between identity and memory, identity and differences (ethnic, in the first place).
