After an earlier article (on Aevum 69 [1995], 15-25) on the title "yĕdîdĕyāh," given to the infant Solomon by Natan, and on the attached phrase "baʿăbûr YHWH" in MT 2 Sam 12:25 and its rendition in the Greek tradition, in this contribution we extend the analysis to encompass the translation of the title and the phrase in the Targum, Peshitta and Vulgate. Then we proceed to a discussion – in dialogue with N. Wyatt and G.von Rad – about the theological background of the title given to Solomon. Therefore, we conclude that the original text of 2 Sam 12:24-25 has been preserved by the “Vorlage” of the LXX, whereas the MT of these verses has undergone several secondary corrections.
