EnglishThe Greek participle διαδεχομένους occurs in the 1Cr 26,18b LXX, and also in a doublet in this chapter of difficult transmission, vv. 16-17, where it appears with the preposition εἰς. Such syntagma has the function of a predicative participle of the subject; its appropriate translation would be “as successors / substitutes.” Therefore, it designates gate-keepers put on western side of the temple for relieving the guard.
