In Ps 54(53):5 the mention of the "zārîm", "strangers", of the MT, must be considered an ideologized re-reading of the original "zēdîm", "arrogants", due also to palaeographic reasons. "Zārîm" is supposed in the Septuagint’s "Vorlage" too, where it is read ἀλλότριοι, "not belonging", confirming that textual emendation occurred in Hebrew in the post-exilic period, by influence of a strong ideological conditioning. That pushed Israel to make worse the national sentiment up to xenophobia, and to keep distance from Hellenistic society, in which it recognized a serious menace to its own integrity of worship.

Abstract
In Ps 54(53):5 the mention of the "zārîm", "strangers", of the MT, must be considered an ideologized re-reading of the original "zēdîm", "arrogants", due also to palaeographic reasons. "Zārîm" is supposed in the Septuagint’s "Vorlage" too, where it is read ἀλλότριοι, "not belonging", confirming that textual emendation occurred in Hebrew in the post-exilic period, by influence of a strong ideological conditioning. That pushed Israel to make worse the national sentiment up to xenophobia, and to keep distance from Hellenistic society, in which it recognized a serious menace to its own integrity of worship.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
