The relationship between cinema, audiovisual media, and schools raises theoretical, methodological, political, and practical questions. This special issue, introduced by this essay, highlights the diversity of modes and implications of this relationship, emphasising the importance of finding sustainable and productive ways for dialogue between schools and the media.
