“Sopra la croce grande donata dal re Desiderio”. Motivi artistici e percorsi museografici ottocenteschi

he “Cross of Desiderius” is among the most significant works of goldsmithery in the Museum of Santa Giulia in Brescia. This contribution presents the results of new archival investigations that shed light on its devotional uses, liturgical function, and historical origins. In particular, its role as a reliquary, its periodic rearrangements, and its restoration for museological purposes following the suppression of the monastery allow for a better understanding of the value and prestige the object enjoyed within the context of the San Salvatore-Santa Giulia female monastic community.

La “Croce di Desiderio” è tra gli oggetti di oreficeria più significativi del Museo di Santa Giulia di Brescia. Il contributo presenta il risultato di nuove indagini d’archivio che ne mettono in luce gli usi devozionali, la funzione liturgica e le origini storiche. In particolare, l’uso reliquiario, le periodiche sistemazioni e il restauro con finalità museografiche dopo la soppressione del monastero, permettono di capirne meglio il valore e il pregio goduto nel contesto monastico femminile giuliano.
