The article deals with the topic of how exclusive rights on distinctive signs can be acquired and protected in social networks. The first issue addressed concerns the trade marks and other distinctive signs of the social networks. The article goes on to look at the forms of use of the distinctive signs of users on social networks. Then the most problematic issue is that of the use on social networks of others' trade marks and distinctive signs and of assessing whether or not such use is lawful. The final part examines issues relating to jurisdiction and the identification of the competent courts.
