This article reconstructs the history of the monumental bronze Poldi Pezzoli family crest, designed by Lodovico Pogliaghi between 1875 and 1880 for the Golden Room of the Museo Poldi Pezzoli. Combining archival research with the recent recovery of the original work after more than seventy years of disappearance, the study traces its commission, iconography, wartime loss, rediscovery on the art market, and eventual restitution to the museum. The crest’s remarkable story highlights the importance of provenance research and interdisciplinary collaboration in the protection and recovery of cultural heritage.
