This study examines the stylistic features of Art Nouveau as expressed in the design and content of Russian belles-lettres journals at the turn of the Nineteenth and Twentieth centuries, with particular focus on "Mir Iskusstva", "Vesy", and "Zolotoe Runo". The new era's pursuit of artistic synthesis dissolved conventional boundaries between illustration and book design, as well as between the roles of illustrator, author, and publisher. Unconstrained by a fixed thematic scope, these journals embraced an eclecticism that allowed contributions stylized after Classicism, Gothic, Rococo, and other historical styles. Particular attention is given to the decorative and ornamental character of the journals' visual language, achieved through fluid contours, fragmentation, plant motifs, and a preference for pastel tones and planar composition. The study further argues that the ornamental vocabulary of Russian Art Nouveau journals was substantially shaped by Western models through which Russian artists adopted and reworked established images and symbols from the broader tradition of world art.
