The political history of the city of Brescia at the end of the Eighteenth Century can be read in the light of local particularism and the influences that came from outside. The reasons that led to the conspiracy against the Serenissima will be investigated, highlighting the real influence of revolutionary events and ideals (French and United States), as well as the possible Masonic influences. Through a narrative that since 1792 leads to the establishment of the Repubblica bresciana (1797), it will be possible to better understand the relationship with the Milanese political milieu, as well as the fundamental one with the Armée d’Italie. Finally, using the birth of the Society of Public Education as a lens of investigation, a new contribution of knowledge will be offered on the decisive contribution of those patriots animated by a radical and Jacobin ideology, capable of ferrying many Brescians to unitary positions.

Abstract
The political history of the city of Brescia at the end of the Eighteenth Century can be read in the light of local particularism and the influences that came from outside. The reasons that led to the conspiracy against the Serenissima will be investigated, highlighting the real influence of revolutionary events and ideals (French and United States), as well as the possible Masonic influences. Through a narrative that since 1792 leads to the establishment of the Repubblica bresciana (1797), it will be possible to better understand the relationship with the Milanese political milieu, as well as the fundamental one with the Armée d’Italie. Finally, using the birth of the Society of Public Education as a lens of investigation, a new contribution of knowledge will be offered on the decisive contribution of those patriots animated by a radical and Jacobin ideology, capable of ferrying many Brescians to unitary positions.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
