This article reconstructs the origins and early development of the Associazione ex-alunni degli Artigianelli between 1925 and 1926, examining the formation of a collective identity rooted in the educational and spiritual legacy of Giovanni Battista Piamarta. Through archival documentation, periodicals, commemorative texts, and institutional records, the study analyses how the association emerged not merely as an organizational structure, but as the expression of a shared memory and a renewed sense of belonging among former students of the Istituto Artigianelli and the agricultural school of Remedello Sopra. The article places particular emphasis on the translation of Piamarta’s remains in April 1926 from the Brescia cemetery to the church of the Artigianelli Institute, presenting the event as a decisive moment in the consolidation of the Piamartine community. The solemn ceremonies, public processions, participation of civic and religious authorities, and the involvement of former students are interpreted as acts of collective memory that transformed devotion to the founder into a structured institutional identity. The study highlights the emotional and symbolic importance of the celebrations, which united religious devotion, civic participation, and educational heritage within the social and cultural context of interwar Brescia. Central to the essay is the creation of the official emblem of the alumni association, designed in 1926 by former student Silvio Figaroli. The article offers a detailed iconographic and symbolic analysis of the badge, composed of the cross, the Star of Italy, the open book, agricultural symbols, and artisanal tools framed by the motto Pietas et labor. Each element is interpreted as a visual synthesis of Piamarta’s educational ideals: the integration of Christian spirituality, civic responsibility, intellectual formation, manual labour, and social dignity. The emblem is thus presented not as a simple decorative object, but as a condensed manifesto of the Piamartine pedagogical vision and of the identity cultivated among generations of former students. The study further examines the statutes and objectives of the newly founded association, emphasizing its commitment to preserving bonds of fraternity, promoting mutual assistance, supporting the educational works founded by Piamarta, and maintaining his spirit within family and society. Particular attention is devoted to the notion of the “family spirit,” understood as a central dimension of the Piamartine educational experience and as the emotional foundation upon which the alumni identity was constructed. Finally, the article reflects on the enduring significance of the association’s emblem and memory culture in contemporary times. By tracing the continuity of the symbol across generations, the study demonstrates how the Piamartine educational heritage has remained a living and active tradition, capable of preserving a sense of belonging and transmitting values linked to work, faith, solidarity, and civic responsibility. The essay ultimately presents the history of the alumni association as a case study in the construction of educational identity and collective memory within twentieth-century Catholic social culture.

Abstract
The essay ultimately presents the history of the alumni association as a case study in the construction of educational identity and collective memory within twentieth-century Catholic social culture.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
