Our sources devote only a few passages to the figure of T. Flavius Sabinus: the present contribution aims to reconstruct the stages of his career and to analyze his role in the events of the civil war of A.D. 69. His position as praefectus urbi ensured him a prominent role in the unfolding of the conflict, but his objective - to reach an agreement with Vitellius and to secure the capture of Rome without bloodshed on behalf of his brother Vespasian - was hindered by internal rivalries within the partes Flavianae.
