This study extends and completes the analysis of the Milanese painter and engraver Melchiorre Gherardini (1603-1668), focusing on the artist’s mature works. Newly discovered documents, transcribed in the appendix, shed fresh light on the chronology of Gherardini’s involvement at the Sacro Monte di Varallo between 1638 and 1642, a period marked by his alternating presence in Milan. Building on prior research published in the previous issue of A rt e L omb ard a, the paper examines Gherardini’s stylistic development, engaging with Franco Renzo Pesenti’s pioneering study on the topic, and explores the origins of the artist’s evolution, inouenced by his connection with Carlo Francesco Nuvolone.
