Built by Cardinal Branda Castiglione (1350-1443), at the beginning of the 15th century, the stately palace, together with the church of Villa, the Collegiata and the other elements of the village, represents one of the most valuable Lombard examples of the art of Masolino da Panicale and Lorenzo di Pietro, called il Vecchietta, in the broader context of the late medieval artistic and architectural renewal. The essay illustrates the cardinal’s residence within the elegant town and particular attention is paid to the cardinal room, frescoed in 1423 and based on a complex cosmological scheme, with late medieval renaissances and cartouches with humanist imprint.

Abstract
Built by Cardinal Branda Castiglione (1350-1443), at the beginning of the 15th century, the stately palace, together with the church of Villa, the Collegiata and the other elements of the village, represents one of the most valuable Lombard examples of the art of Masolino da Panicale and Lorenzo di Pietro, called il Vecchietta, in the broader context of the late medieval artistic and architectural renewal. The essay illustrates the cardinal’s residence within the elegant town and particular attention is paid to the cardinal room, frescoed in 1423 and based on a complex cosmological scheme, with late medieval renaissances and cartouches with humanist imprint.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
