Milano città, suburbio e borghi tra il Settecento e l’Unità: dinamiche politico-amministrative

This short essay analyses the changing legal, political, administrative and fiscal relations between the City of Milan, the area outside the Spanish walls and the neighbouring villages between the 18th century and Italian unification. The dialectic between the great needs of the Milanese metropolis and the reasons and identities of the rural villages develops through historical junctures, such as the launch of the new census and administrative system under Maria Theresa, the birth of the municipality of Corpi Santi (1781), the expansion of the Milanese municipal territory under Napoleon, the return of autonomy to the neighbouring villages during the Lombardy-Venetia Kingdom, up to the eve of the new expansion of the Milanese municipality in the post-unification era (1873, 1923).

Nel breve saggio si analizzano i mutevoli rapporti – sul piano giuridico-politico, amministrativo, fiscale – tra la Città di Milano, il circondario esterno alle mura spagnole e i borghi contermini, tra il XVIII secolo e l’Unificazione italiana. La dialettica tra le grandi esigenze della metropoli ambrosiana, le ragioni e le identità dei borghi rurali si snodano attraverso passaggi periodizzanti, quali il varo del nuovo sistema censuario e amministrativo sotto Maria Teresa, la nascita del comune dei Corpi Santi (1781), l’ampliamento del territorio comunale milanese sotto Napoleone, il ritorno delle autonomie dei borghi contermini durante il Regno Lombardo-Veneto, sino alla vigilia dei nuovi accorpamenti, in epoca post-unitaria (1873, 1923).
