In the wake of critical studies on the relationship between grammar and exegesis in ancient Christianity, it is interesting to delve into the origin of the techniques applied by Origen in his oeuvre and their circulation among his Christian and non-Christian contemporaries. By considering the presence of the syntagm τὸ ἑξῆς, which signifies the grammatical, i.e. logical-syntactical, sequence that the authors privileged as more correct than the original and ambiguous textual structure, as in the case of hyperbata, it is possible to examine their work in reorganising words or sentences in order to maintain a valid interpretation. This procedure, acquired within traditional scholastic preparation, was also validated and practised in various Christian contexts by Greek and Latin exegetes of the early centuries.
