The Italian prison system is distinguished by a re-educative conception of punishment, as delineated by Article 27 of the Italian Constitution. Within this paradigm, it is imperative to offer work activities to inmates and female prisoners. The research presented here, conducted in the women's sections of three prisons in Southern Italy through the administration of a questionnaire, examines the relationship between work and well-being at the psycho-physical, relational and work levels. The majority of respondents expresses very positive evaluations of the usefulness of prison work, as being able to improve both prison life and future social reintegration. However, this undoubtedly relevant finding clashes with the lack of suitable occupations for all female inmates, who representing a small percentage compared to the entire Italian prison population, risk being even more marginalized and excluded from any form of re-educational opportunity. One of the notable outcomes of this study is the development of a family incarceration index, a tool that provides insights into the social context of female inmates and their vulnerability to criminal behaviour.

Abstract
One of the notable outcomes of this study is the development of a family incarceration index, a tool that provides insights into the social context of female inmates and their vulnerability to criminal behaviour.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
